Update: Senator Ben Uwajumogu’s death, a bad Xmas gift for us – Imo APC

The Imo State chapter of the ruling All Progressives Congress has described as “shocking and a huge loss” the death of the senator representing Imo North senatorial district, Mr. Benjamin Uwajumogu.

The party’s chairman in the state, Daniel Nwafor, said, “Senator Benjamin Uwajumogu shouldn’t have died now.”

According to the APC chairman, the death of the senator was too painful for the party.

Nwafor said, “Death is an inevitable thing, but it isn’t in our power to decide; otherwise, Senator Benjamin Uwajumogu wouldn’t have died now.

“It is a huge loss to the party, to Imo State and also to the entire country.”

“He was a resourceful politician. The news of his demise was shocking.

“We can’t question God, but he should have lived longer.

“The party, state and country are in mourning mood. It is a bad Christmas gift for us.”

There was outcry in Imo State on Wednesday as news broke that Uwajumogu was dead.

The senator died in an Abuja hospital after he slumped while taking his bath, reports said.

A cross section of Imo people across party lines had taken to their social media handles to mourn the fallen lawmaker.

Various articles descried the senator as “a detribalised senator who fought for the unity of the country.”

Uwajumogu, who was first elected into the Senate in 2015, was re-elected in 2019.

He was the Speaker of the Imo State House of Assembly between 2011 and 2015.

Until his death, he was the senate committee chairman on Labour and employment.

He hailed from Ihitte/Uboma Local Government Area of Imo State.
