HIKE IN TUITION FEES, BETRAYING – ENANG

HIKE IN TUITION FEES, BETRAYING – ENANG.

Worried by the rising cost of Education in the country, Chieftain of the All Progressives Congress,Hon. Emmanuel Stephen Enang has said such development only betrays the good intentions of the current Government towards the  prosperity of most Nigerians.

Speaking on heels of recent alleged hike in the school fees collected by Unity Schools and some Universities in the country, Enang said the vulnerable population most of whom are already celebrating the assurances of this Administration on their wellbeing and prosperity, will begin to loose confidence in the Administration.

Enang who was Spokeperson for the Presidential Campaign Council, PCC in the South South Zone, said President Bola Tinubu has to intervene in the light of the development to save his Government the embarrassment of betrayal.

“The development is betraying of the public confidence already built around the new government, and I think that the President himself must say No to such hike, for our people especially the vulnerable population to enjoy smooth and cheap access to quality education in the country,”Enang emphasized.

He said,on no account should Education become a Market Commodity whose cost would be determined by market forces or economic development in the country.

“I was disappointed when the officials of the University of Lagos hinged their decision to raise school fees from ₦45,000 to ₦190,000 on the economic development in the country.

Yet,these are institutions that are still drawing subvention through public funding.

Besides, they have all sorts of revenue receipts that they raise funds internally.

So why suffocate the poor and vulnerable who strife to send their wards to these Universities?”.

He urged the Federal Government to align completely with the United Nations regulations regarding free and compulsory access to Education, stating that this was one sure way to guarantee a stable and prosperous Nation for all.
