NEWS: NO POLITICAL DISCRIMINATION OR SECURITY SCARE AT THE IBOM CHRISTMAS VILLAGE

NO POLITICAL DISCRIMINATION OR SECURITY SCARE AT THE IBOM CHRISTMAS VILLAGE

My attention has been drawn to stories making the rounds on social media about an alleged attack on one Atuekong Paul Bassey and his brother at the Ibom Christmas Village on Sunday, December 18, 2022.
I want to state categorically that the news in circulation is false and malicious, only with the intent to bring disrepute to the much celebrated Ibom Christmas Village brand.
For the records, Ibom Christmas Village plays host to vendors and thousands of guests from diverse political background, as a melting point for relaxation for many residents and visitors.  Ibom Christmas Village from its inception has been an egalitarian recreation center for the Yuletide, with no discrimination whatsoever, be it political or otherwise.
It is unfortunate that a political party would attempt to use the Ibom Christmas Village for political propaganda, in trying to score cheap political point.
In the case under reference, the young man and his accomplice were alleged to be under the influence of alcohol and as such confronted security personnel with machetes that were hidden in their car.
The recovered weapon (machete ) is currently in the possession of the Nigeria Police Force, as the matter is under investigation.
Since inception in 2019, Ibom Christmas Village has been a peaceful relaxation spot, which emphasize on  responsible drinking and respectful conduct, while there. Weapons are not admitted into the premises.

I want to assure Akwa Ibom people that we will continue to ensure that the security & safety of lives and property within the Ibom Christmas Village, is our priority. The Christmas Village is safe and will remain the prime recreation spot for the entire Yuletide.
Signed:
Rt. Hon. Orman Esin
